Gov. Christie visits Somerset to see how a tech-focused charter school is modernizing education

During a tour of the Thomas Edison Energy Smart Charter School, Gov. Chris Christie hailed the tech-focused charter as an example for future. At a news conference, the governor expressed why the charter school that offers students a technology focused curriculum should be a model for other schools.

“With current enrollment at 336 students, growth is anticipated to reach 426 students by the 2016-2017 school year. As a tier 1 public school, you are inspiring the development of more cutting edge classrooms across New Jersey,” Christie said. The school’s staff agrees.

They say students get the opportunity to be involved with programs ranging from NASA-inspired spaceflight experiments to designing robots. “There are experimenting events, there are building projects, there are robots that will be competing in May in Romania at the International Robotics Competition,” school leader Oguz Yildiz said.
